Filmbuzz
Filmbuzz
Project Overview
Filmbuzz was a project created in order for users to easily find and see reviews for movies. It is meant to create a connection between the movie watching community. The project was done for the duration of 3 weeks, from June 8th to June 29th, 2023. As this project was a personal project, I was the sole UX/UI designer.
The Problem
Competitive Audit and Report
Several competing companies were looked at, with most being direct competitors of Filmbuzz. The insights gained from the competitive audit are shown below.
Has a cluttered UI in some areas
The amount of features can confuse new users
Can improve their payment processes
Can improve the organization of times of movies
The low-fidelity design of the filmbuzz app was created out of paper prototypes, and then refined with usability studies. These usability studies were then made into a presentation which would have been reviewed. Low-Fidelity Prototype
Users stated they thought the button options were not clear enough. I decided to fix this by working with users to pinpoint what exactly wasn't clear to them, and tweaked images and text.
The lack of features provided was a problem for certain users, so I decided to revamp parts, including the added feature of a movie roulette and a social platform.
Finally, the app was ready for the high-fidelity design, which was changed to address previous problems from the usability study. The designs accessibility is derived mainly fro its icons. The use of icons makes it easier not only for non English speakers to use the app, but also helps guide users with subpar vision. Hi-Fidelity Design
Overall, I think this product was a success although it could use improvements. I believe the end result is a user-friendly and easy-to-use app to find and watch movies. The next steps that would be there to take if this was an official product, would be to conduct another usability study on the hi-fidelity prototype and apply constant revisions to the design while working with others to make the product better. Overall, however, I would say as a first product this would be a success.
